REMS Director receives National Award

This was awarded for a particularly difficult incident that he attended in Manchester. In brief a vehicle had left the road, driving down an embankment and into a canal. The vehicle came to rest upside down in the water and the 2 occupants were not out of the vehicle when he arrived on scene. Dave immediately donned some PPE and made his descent into the cold water to rescue the occupants. With no time to wait for the fire service Dave evacuated the occupants with the assistance of the public. The patients were in a poor state of health. As the other emergency services arrived Dave organised the disposal of the patients over to the ambulance service with the assistance of the fire service. It was fortunate for the occupants that Dave is a rescue paramedic and was able to deploy Emergency Rescue Techniques to resolve this situation.
